Rotary Foundation Presentation

Rotarian Sue Halambeck gave an overview of the Rotary Foundaton.  Sue is on the District 6250 Grants committee.  Money that is donated through Every Rotarian Every Year (recommended donation of $100 per Rotarian) funds the grants that are given out through the district.  The money is invested for 3 years and then half is returned to the district for grant distribution.  A club must be contributing to Every Rotarian Every Year and have a trained member to be eligible to receive a district grant.  Consider attending a district grant management seminar.  The next will be on March 19 in Madison. Aaron Oppenheimer is the Sun Prairie Foundation committee contact.

Goals of the International Foundation include ending conflict, poverty, illiteracy, hunger and polio. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches Rotary dollars towards the eradication of polio goal.  Additionally, the International Rotary Foundation sponsors Peace Fellows and Ambassadorial Scholarships worldwide. Key to any Rotary grant is that it is a sustainable project.

Other news:
  • Rose Friedel distributed ad information for the Pancake Feast on Sunday, March 1,  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and ads are the main revenue so it is important to sell the ads.  Please talk to Rose if you have questions.
  • Several of our members are retiring or leaving the area and, therefore, leaving the club.  Most recently, Jim Amstadt announced he will be retiring and leaving Sun Prairie.  Membership is a key focus for Rotary.  If you are interested in being part of a membership committee or have ideas to boost membership, contact Laurie Krueger.
  • The SP Foundation put out the call for community grant applications with a good response.  The SP Foundation board will narrow down the selection to the top 3.  These organizations will be at the Feb 10 meeting to present about their program and the membership will then vote on the two to receive a $5000 grant each.  Be sure to attend that meeting so we can have good representation.
Have a great day and see you Tuesday.
