This week we heard from President of the Second Harvest Food Bank, Dan Stein.  Dan gave interesting statistics and information about the status of hunger in Wisconsin.  Second Harvest serves 16 counties in Wisconsin. Did you know that over 50% of people who access local food pantries are employed?  The fastest growing need is among children; one of every 5 children are hungry. 50% of children in Madison schools qualify for reduced lunch and 78% qualify in Beloit schools.  A new program called Kids Cafe provides meals and activities for afterschool and weekends.  Some communities are starting a similar program for the summer months.

For many people, they are forced to choose between paying for food or medications, utilities or rent.  3 billion meals were provided by food pantries in the US in 2014.

Next Tuesday's meeting will be the passing of the gavel at the annual picnic at Orfan Park at 5:30 p.m.  We will have sub sandwiches and ask that you bring a dish to pass. There will NOT be a regular morning meeting.  However, the golf committee will be meeting at the normal time if you are interested in being involved.

Have a great weekend.
