Gonzalo Delgado is our Rotary Exchange Student for the 2019-2020 school year. He will be arriving this August, and we look forward to meeting him. Here's something Gonzalo wrote about himself so we could get to know him a little:
Hello, everybody! My name is Gonzalo Delgado, and I'm from Venezuela. My family is one of the most important treasures in my life! I have a big family and I really love all of them!
I will be pleased to share our traditions with you and what it's like to be a good Venezuelan! My other family is my schoolmates; I'm very happy because I will graduate this year!
Venezuela is such a beautiful country in the north of South America, and it capital is Caracas. We have awesome places to visit like the Angel Fall, which is the highest water fall in the world. It's an honour for me to be a representative of my country and to share with all of you my culture and customs! We love arepas (a delicious dish from my country) and we also love our music, and I will do my best to share it with you.
I enjoy playing the Cuatro, the most popular instrument in Venezuela! I will always be grateful to rotary for giving me this opportunity. Here in Venezuela, I'm part of Interact; my interact is called Valle de Santiago. I've learned to be a better person, and I love to help people in my community!
I'm so excited for this year; I can't wait to pass the best year of my life in Sun Prairie! Thank you all for giving me this opportunity!
At our weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 30th, The Sun Prairie Rotary Foundation donated $1,000 to the Sun Prairie Jazz 1 Band to help with expenses for their trip to NEW YORK CITY for Essentially Ellington 2019!
In honor of Arbor Day 2019 and of two of its members, Sue Halambeck and Andrew Bissonnette, the Rotary Club of Sun Prairie is donating two trees to the City of Sun Prairie. On Tuesday, April 30th, City employees and members of the Rotary Club of Sun Prairie planted the donated trees at Orfan Park.
Welcome to the 2019 District Conference! We have had an inspiring year – now it’s time to celebrate, as well as exchange ideas and plan for the future. In keeping with President Barry Rassin theme ”Be the Inspiration”, we have some truly inspiring stories to share with you. We also have some inspiring challenges that face our entire district, that we will address and ask “What can a Rotary Club do about this?” Two of those biggest challenges are the opioid epidemic in our region, and human trafficking.
Besides the thought provoking sessions, we will have a membership summit meeting, our annual business meeting, and fun! Be sure and check out the House of Friendship, and the silent auction items up for bid. And take in some of La Crosse’s fun at the free Artspire street fair, just a block or so south of the La Crosse Center. In the evening, there will be live entertainment there. We also have several “international” ports of call lined up so you can sample La Crosse’s walkable downtown nightlife.
Rotary’s slogans and messages come and go, but this year’s theme will stay with me forever. Because a central part of each and every Rotarian’s responsibility is truly to “Be the Inspiration”. That should not end at the close of this Rotary year. I hope each of us will embrace that mission, and share the gifts of Rotary with many others in the years to come!
Bill Hoel - District Governor 2018-2019
