Stories
Family Fun Nights at Westside Elementary
In May, our club applied for a Rotary District Grant in partnership with Sun Prairie Community Schools.  The project that we hoped would be funded was called "Opening Doors for Kids and Families in Sun Prairie."  The project calls for SP Rotary to be integrally involved with the First Friday Family Fun Nights held at Buena Vista Site of SP Community Schools located within Westside Elementary. Rotarians are asked to volunteer at our First Friday Family Fun Nights.  Your family members are invited to attend as well.  This is a community wide event.

ColoniALE Fest

BUY TICKETS NOW

The Colonial Club Senior Center in Sun Prairie, WI will hold its 6th annual "ColoniALE Fest" on Friday, November 4, 2016.  With over 60 different types of beer and over  a dozen types of wine, this event has become a popular event over the years.  Wisconsin State Journal's Chris Drosner, aka "The Beer Baron" said:

“I’ve been to a lot of beer festivals, and ColoniALE is a nice change of pace, perfect for people with a budding interest in beer or intermediate connoisseurs. Its relatively intimate size and friendly people on both sides of the pouring tables – not to mention the good cause -- have kept me coming back.”

As Chris mentioned, the cause is a good one.  ColoniALE Fest raises money to help sustain the programs and activities of the Colonial Club and its mission:  to enhance the well-being and independence of older adults.  Whether we're delivering a nutritious meal to a homebound senior or providing compassionate care in the Adult Day Center, we're helping people age well.

This year, we welcome the Sun Prairie Rotary Club as a co-sponsor of our event.  The Rotary Club does lots of charitable work in Sun Prairie and around the globe and we're happy to have them join us.

All of us, regardless of age want to remain in our homes for as long as it's safely possible.  Your purchase of tickets will help make that possible.  Ticket price includes complimentary souvenir tasting glass, comprehensive program of beer descriptions and samples of great, local food.

Million Dollar Journey Announced

We are currently in the 100th year of our Rotary Foundation.  Founded in 1917 under the direction of Rotary’s sixth President Arch Klumph with $26.50 as an endowment “to do good in the world”, its assets have now grown to over $1 billion.  Rotary International is planning celebrations in Cleveland, where Klumph was a distinguished Rotarian, as well as Atlanta for the International Convention, to celebrate 100 years of The Rotary Foundation.

To mark this important milestone, our district has set a goal to raise a minimum of $1 million in new major gifts of $10,000 or more for The Rotary Foundation.  Gifts can be spread over 3 year pledges of at least $3,333 per year, or new or increased bequests of $10,000 or more.  According to District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Dave Warren, “early pledges and gifts have already exceeded a quarter of a million dollars with over 14 months left in a campaign…and it hadn’t even been officially been announced!”

A celebratory dinner has already been scheduled for the evening of Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the beautiful Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells for all who make major gifts toward this goal.  There will be a special address from a major Rotary International dignitary.   For more information on how you can be a part of this special effort, please contact Dave Warren at dave@davesace.com

District 6250 Friendship Exchanges

We have an exchange with Nepal, where eleven travelers from our district will visit five clubs over a two week period from September 26 - October 10.  No Rotarians from Nepal plan on visiting us, stating that the cost of travel is beyond their individual budgets.

There is another exchange planned to travel to the Philippines in mid January.  Edwin Bos is arranging the details, with 20 travelers from our district visiting areas of the Philippines where they are already involved in Rotary projects.  The Rotarians from the Philippines plan on visiting our district as well, but this is based on ongoing projects, so we are not looking for host clubs.

The next trip being planned will occur between our district and a district in Gujarat, India.  They have six couples selected to travel here in May/June of 2017.  We are accepting clubs who are interested in hosting these twelve visitors.  We are also looking for participants from our district to travel to Gujarat from January 21- February 5, 2017.   If you, or your club, are interested in getting involved in this exchange, let our Friendship Exchange chairman, Dave Clemens, know.  Any questions, or interest, should be expressed to him.  Any travelers are expected to pay their air fare, first hotel night and some rental car costs.  Food, lodging and entertainment are the responsibility of the hosts.
