Seven members of the Sun Prairie Rotary Club took to the ditches along Hwy 151 on Saturday, August 6th, collecting 24 bags of trash. Chad Wiedmeyer, Jim Bell, Jim Mastrangelo, John Landsverk, Tyler Riekena and Andy Bissonnette all showed up and got after the unsightly trash littering our stretch of highway between Reiner Rd and Main Street.
"The Highway Dept had just mowed this stretch within the past couple of weeks", said Bissonnette, "so the walking was pretty easy compared to the waist-high growth that we encountered in June. The shorter grass also allowed us to see the trash more easily as well." The weather cooperated again, with lower temps and lower humidity than in the previous few days.
For the second straight clean-up, the group found a discarded wallet, including a drivers license and other identification, but of course no cash or credit cards. "Apparently this is a popular place to throw stolen wallets", commented Bissonnette. "The owners must be fascinated to discover where their wallets ended up, as we returned each wallet."
The club is hoping to conduct one final clean-up in the fall, probably in October after the first freeze.
