![]() Behind the Scenes of Owning Prairie Jewelers
Jan 03, 2023 7:15 AM
Meet Art Fish, Owner of Prairie Jewelers, Sun Prairie’s Long-Established Jeweler of Over 100 Years, and Recent Recipient of “Best Jewelry Store” in the Star Newspaper’s 2002 Readers’ Poll. He will share tips for selecting, caring for and repurposing jewelry. Jewelry in all shapes, sizes, colors and cuts of gemstones, has been an integral part of history and culture for thousands of years. Fast forward to today when Art Fish, owner of Prairie Jewelers in Sun Prairie, talks to Sun Prairie Rotarians and guests about what types of jewelry is popular today. On January 3, Fish, former Sales Manager of Goodman’s Jewelers on State Street in Madison, and the new owner of Prairie Jewelers, will discuss jewelry trends, including restyling or repurposing treasured pieces of jewelry from the past that are often forgotten in boxes and drawers. Fish has worked in the jewelry business for over 30 years before becoming the new owner of Prairie Jewelers. Mike Durant, well-known in the community, was at the store’s helm for 38 years. “There are very few purchases in life that can be described as important, urgent, scary, caring, loving and forever,” said Fish. “Choosing a piece of jewelry can be intimating, especially when you’re making lifetime purchases. You want to get it right.” |

Rotary Friendship Exchanges
Feb 14, 2023 7:15 AM
The Rotary Friendship Exchange program gives Rotarians (including spouse, significant other or one family member) the opportunity to host and visit Rotarians around the world. In addition to experiencing other cultures and making lasting friendships, an exchange provides a strong foundation for carrying out other international activities and service projects.
The primary goal of a Friendship Exchange is to build greater international understanding and goodwill. In addition, exchange participants can learn how their vocations are practiced in other parts of the world, observe new customs and cultures, and promote an appreciation of cultural diversity worldwide.

![]() Olive and Herb: As Fresh as it Gets
Mar 28, 2023 7:15 AM
Lori Hackman, local olive oil expert, and owner of Olive and Herb will talk about easy, inexpensive ways to incorporate extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in your diet and share tips for cooking and baking with olive oil. Her business orders extra fresh virgin olive oil directly from small farms in Italy, about an hour from Rome. At her store she stocks 16 different types of olive oil in stainless steel vats called fustis. The oil is not bottled for customers in advance. After you’ve tasted and selected what you want, the oil is bottled in front of you –making it the freshest olive oil around. Lori’s store, formerly known as The Oilerie, has a new sign sporting its new name- Olive and Herb -since herbs pair beautifully with her olive oils. Her shop has been a popular go-to destination in the Prairie Lakes location for about seven years. She recently revitalized and rebranded the olive oil destination. “We have the same products (and some new ones), same owner, and same location but with a new name, “ she said.
