Rawhide Youth Services
Apr. 27, 2021 7:15 a.m.
My career started in educational sales almost 20 years ago and I've been lucky enough to work for some outstanding, ground breaking companies. In 2018 I fell in love with Rawhide Youth Services, the mission and becoming a professional Fundraiser, where I currently serve. When I'm not talking with donors, you can find me with my family on adventures and taking pictures of something somewhere. Outside of Rawhide and family, I can usually be seen reading about ocean conservation, politics, unlikely superheros and as of late, the importance of public land in our country. The focus of my talk will be placing a spotlight on the Rawhide of 2021 and the impact we want to have in our community for the next few decades. I’ll touch on the history, but will mainly focus on today and the plans for tomorrow, including our goal to eliminate the waiting list for at-risk youth that need our help. We’ll spend some time talking about exactly what Rawhide is, who we serve, and how we depend on the community’s help to accomplish our mission. Provided by James Held |

Explore Children's Museum
May 18, 2021 7:15 a.m.
I have a Masters in Special Education, with a teaching certification in special and general education. I was a teacher at Sun Prairie High School and pre-pandemic I was a preschool teacher at Sun Prairie Nursery School. My husband and I have four young children and truly feel that we have found a fantastic city to raise our family in. I am thrilled to be a part of bringing a children’s museum to Sun Prairie. Children’s museums are built to spark children’s imaginations, allow them to follow their passions and discover new passions, a place where children can show us how they play and in doing so, how their brains are developing. The Explore Children’s Museum will be a community hub; a place for families to enjoy one another, expand and explore their knowledge, develop skills and connect with their community and the world around them.

Rowe Pottery in Cambridge WI
Jul. 13, 2021
Rowe Pottery has been handcrafting pottery in Cambridge WI for over 40 years, I started with the company in 2007 and purchased the business in 2013! It has been a crazy 4 years revitalizing the brand and growing sales. In 2017 we are excited to announce that we have purchased a 100 year old building in downtown Cambridge and we have started the process to transition this landmark building into an industrial style studio space and new retail location! I could not be more excited to see the business take on a new look and become a true anchor in the community. I truly love pottery and have been a collector of Rowe for over 20 years. I truly love that Rowe Pottery is able to provide artisans a career in their craft. It is exciting to see them create the product from a ray lump of clay and our goal through this journal and our new space is to bring this process to life for our customers! Thanks for taking time to learn about Rowe and watch our journey unfold! Provided by Beth Mielcarek |

A Story of Survival, from Abuse to Brain Injury, to Helping Others Move Beyond Hopelessness
Aug. 10, 2021 7:15 a.m.
Dying to Live is a true story that takes readers on a journey of unthinkable struggles that happened back-to-back. Dr. Kimberly Lees’ memoir provides a powerful and heartbreaking look at what it’s like to experience emotional and physical trauma. As a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, and two car accidents resulting in traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), Dr. Lees says, “I know firsthand what it means to go into the dark tunnel of hopelessness thinking I would never return. I realized how fragile life is. Time stops for no one.” Provided by Toni Pabon |

District Governor Visit
Aug. 31, 2021 7:15 a.m.
Meet 2021 - 2022 District Governor - Karen HebertThank you for the opportunity to introduce myself.
I love Rotary. I love Rotarians. Rotary’s peacebuilding mission has drawn, encouraged, corrected and challenged me. I have accepted the invitation to orient my life to Rotary’s motto of service above self.
I was raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I chose the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire as the best place to become a band director - and stayed to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration.
A college internship with Blue Cross Blue Shield left me vowing to “never sell anything – especially not insurance”. So naturally, I am enjoying a fulfilling career as an Employer Benefits Broker; helping area employers design, finance and manage benefit programs that work to attract and support their valuable employees. Rotary's Vocational Service inspires me to engage ethically and meaningfully in my professional life.
I was invited to join The Rotary Club of Eau Claire in 1989. I was delighted at the invitation, quite unaware of the context of Rotary history in which I found myself. I served on club committees and as President in 2003-04. A move to Chippewa Falls motivated a transfer to The Rotary Club of Chippewa Falls where I served as Executive Secretary for six years. The club was kind enough to recognize my service with a number of awards; the Avenues Service Citation being most meaningful to me.
I have also served as Assistant Governor, Group Study Exchange Team Leader, and exchange student host mom and GSE team host many times. I was invited to speak at the chartering of the Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary Club and recently transferred my membership to that club. In all my experiences, my favorite Rotary role is “fellow”.
Rotary fellowship and service has enriched my life in ways I can only try to measure. Rotary International Service has brought the world to my doorstep and me to the world. Community leaders have become dear friends over meals shared at Rotary meetings. I know my neighbors better; having grown empathy and understanding in Community Service. Thanks to Youth Service I am optimistic about the future.
But you know my story. It’s your Rotary story too. That's the beauty of it.
I am married to a kind and generous man, Dick Hebert. Dick is the Director of the Chippewa Falls Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and is surely one of the finest public servants that one could ever meet. I am a stepmom to Rachel and Anthony, and happy grandma to Rachel’s bright and beautiful children, Jude and Adelaide. I enjoy being active and social.
I look forward to joining you in service. Here's to a healthy, vibrant and productive Rotary!

Sun Prairie’s New Drive-Thru, ‘Fear-Free’ Vet Clinic
Sep. 07, 2021 7:15 a.m.
Join the Grand Opening Celebration September 25th--Meet the Sun Prairie Fire Department team, the Sun Prairie Police Dog, “Lasko,” Sign Up for the Kids Pet Show, & Enjoy an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social, Prizes, Raffle & Tours of the Clinic. A new veterinary wellness clinic in Sun Prairie was purposely designed as a model of convenience to alleviate anxiety in pets and people. The Checkout Veterinary Drive-Thru Wellness Clinic, is led by Director of Administrative Services, Marty Greer, DVM, JD, a certified Fear Free behavior health veterinarian. She will speak to Sun Prairie Rotarians and guests on September 7th. When you drive into the clinic’s bay area don’t worry about the weather. You’re protected from the moment you drive up by a glassed bay all around you. The concept was developed by Greer and her husband and fellow veterinarian, Dr. Dan Griffiths. Greer noted the Prairie Lakes Drive-thru concept is patented. “It is the only wellness veterinary clinic of its type in the country,” she said. (checkoutvet.com) A Model of Convenience Checkout Veterinary was set up to provide wellness exams and vaccinations (including rabies), microchips, heartworm and other blood tests, microchips and other services. “It is not an emergency animal hospital for sick or injured animals,” explains Greer. “It’s the exact opposite. We developed the clinic to give pet owners convenient, easy access for keeping their pets healthy and up to date on immunizations and health concerns.” Circle the building and pull into the garage/ bay. The familiar car wash-like convenience is coupled with enclosed, weather-protected, climate controlled parking. You can stay in your vehicle and watch your pet’s exam through a large glass viewing window or park in the bay and walk into the exam room with your pet a few feet away. There is no waiting in a lobby or avoiding a large dog lunging at your kitten. The Greer-Griffiths, who have been practicing veterinarians for 40 years have been planning the clinic for nearly seven years. They also own Nature’s Preserve Pet Care in Sun Prairie, and Veterinary Village and International Canine Semen Bank, Wisconsin/Illinois, in Lomira, Wisconsin. Provided by Jamie Racine |
