Leveraging the trailblazing work of Jamie Thomson at UW Madison, local biotech company JangoBio (and its companion animal division, JangoPet) are currently developing regenerative medicine approaches to the diseases of aging, including aging itself. Regenerative medicine seeks to repurpose a body’s innate mechanisms for healing and self-renewal to treat chronic disease and repair damaged, aging, or failing tissues. Current trials show considerable promise for the use of adult stem cells to treat osteoarthritis, evidencing increased mobility in treated dogs. (before and after video) JangoPet is working with the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine to work toward regulatory approval of its highly purified and characterized stem cell mix to repair, renew, and regrow healthy tissue in a dog’s ailing joints.

At the same time, the company is testing therapies for “hypogonadism,” a reduced capability to maintain hormone balance (whether from age, injury, or medical intervention), a condition that afflicts over 2.4 billion people worldwide. This imbalance is directly correlated to age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s, heart disease, cancer, type II diabetes, and osteoporosis. Modulating hormone levels with stem cell technology could provide benefits to individuals (healthier, longer lives) as well as reduce the demand on our overburdened healthcare system.

Regenerative therapies, in both people and pets, are a matter of "when," not "if.”

Jennifer Garrett, Deputy Secretary Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services

Jennifer Garrett was appointed Deputy Secretary of DSPS in January 2025 after serving more than two years as the department's Assistant Deputy Secretary. Before that, she served as director of public affairs. Jennifer joined the department in July 2019 as communications director.

She serves as the chief of staff for the Secretary, managing external affairs for DSPS including media, legislative, and external stakeholders. Additionally, Jennifer serves as the department liaison with the governor's staff and other agencies. 

Garrett is an Indiana native. She has a bachelor's degree in communications and English from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She also earned her J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana.

The new Sun Prairie Civic Theatre season kicks off on Oct. 3rd with the Musical production of Steven Sondheim's Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It is one of three Main Stage shows SPCT will produce in the new season. In addition, SPCT produces The Penguin Project, A Murder Mystery production, and children's theatre programming in the summer months. New this year, SPCT is adding a Radio Play in partnership with the Sun Prairie Media Center. This year's live radio production will be A Christmas Carol. It will first air live on 103.5 FM on November 26th, the evening before Thanksgiving.

Mike Schuster has been the president of SPCT for 2 years, and has been a board member for nearly a decade. He is the owner of Fiddlesmart Marketing, specializing in marketing clarity and sustainable marketing systems for business owners. Mike also appears on stage with SPCT on a regular basis. 

Lori Gryttr, began as SPCT's Development Manager in early 2025 and is a graduate of Sun Prairie High School. She's also been involved in many SPCT productions, most recently starring in "9 to 5 the Musical."  Lori is currently appearing in Madison Theatre Guild's production of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband.
